Der Mann, der die Cohiba Behike kreierte
Raúl Valladares Díaz wurde vor einem Jahr mit dem Titel «Habanos man of the Year» in der Kategorie Produktion ausgezeichnet. Der 74-jährige Kubaner ist seit über 50 Jahren im Tabakgeschäft tätig. Nach der Grundausbildung in einer Zigarrenfabrik und auf Tabakfarmen in Cinfuegos spezialisierte sich Días auf die Deckblatt-Produktion. Später ist er in der Habanos-Hierarchie aufgestiegen. Die jüngste Habanos-Generation ist von ihm massgeblich mitgeprägt worden, indem er unter anderem die Mischungen der Cohiba Maduro 5, der Cohiba Gran Reserva und der Behike-Serie kreierte.
In einem Interview auf der Website von Habanos SA erzählt Raúl Valladares Díaz, wie er die Cohiba Behike entwickelt hat:
The Behike blend is the result of a teamwork that engaged the Tobacco Institute, Habanos S.A. and the Industry. I was asked to make three formats: one of large size, one of medium size and a small one, and to try to achieve a balance between the aroma and the strength. So, I had the responsibility of putting the desired blend into practice with the addition of a stronger leaf: the medio tiempo. Medio tiempo comes from the two upper leaves of the plant, taken from the top foliage layer, to give greater smoking strength to the cigar. We not always have the two medio tiempo leaves in the same plant, so that’s why the production is limited, exclusive and in turn the most expensive one of Habanos S.A.
